GT250 COMET – Value and
Performance
|
|
The Hyosung V-twin 250cc engine was designed in Hamamatsu
Japan by a design team consisting of engineers who have previously
worked in the R&D teams of some of the big Japanese motorcycle
companies. Because this engine is the newest design among its rivals,
it has many performance features that they do not have. These include
roller bearing cam shafts, 2 piece spring dampened bevel silent primary
drive gears, dual squelsh combustion chambers etc. These are features
that were previously confined to racing engines, and in the past have
been uneconomical for other manufacturers to incorporate into smaller
capacity engines for street use. Proven DOHC 4 valve per cylinder
configuration, with twin downdraft Mikuni carburetors provide the
highest volumetric efficiency and air cooling coupled with an oil
cooler provide reliability in the harshest conditions.
|
|
The
latest sport bike styling is incorporated into a practical design. Note
the pillion seat and heavy duty tie down rails for all your gear for
those long trips. The rider's seat is firm in design to provide good
support and reduce fatigue. Heavy duty rear disc brakes with twin
piston fully floating caliper, six spoke alloy wheels with wide
tubeless tires and free flowing exhaust system are used to give maximum
performance. A low cost racing muffler is also available if additional
engine output is required.
|
|
The
comet series all incorporate key lock storage compartment under the
pillion seat. Items such as wet weather gear, maps, lunch etc can be
stored here, as well as locking helmet security (depending on helmet
design). Tools are shown here to demonstrate size of storage however a
purpose made tool storage slot is under the rider's seat. One key
operates ignition, under seat storage and steering lock. GT250 comet
comes in 4 color choices 1) mango yellow 2) signal red 3) midnight
black 4) metallic sky blue.
|
|
The comet 250 comes standard with huge front disc brake with
twin piston fully floating caliper. A twin disc kit is available as an
option for racing use. A six spoke alloy wheel and tubeless tire are
suspended by High tensile upside down forks which have been tuned in
Australia by grand prix specialists to give optimum street performance
with plush, sensitive response and race worthy performance.
|
|
With all this performance equipment, a new headlamp needed to
be designed so the comet could be ridden to its full capability at
night. The unique multi focus headlamp was designed in late 2002 to
provide long distance light projection for the rider to see as far
ahead as possible. It is the latest in headlamp design technology and
is fitted with a shatter resistant lens and a H4 60/55watt globe
